The movie adaptation, The Legend of Hell House, is likewise a fun ride, and also written by Matheson, but check out the book first. This entry, along with the next two, make up the "big three" of the best haunted house ever. These books are the children of Shirley Jackson's The Haunting of Hill House. I believe that every one of these authors was aware of Ms. Jackson's book and worked their own stories to contrast with it, expand upon one of its elements or subverted it in some way.   That’s why I love books and movies.
